Hi - I’m EDDIE MYER and you’re looking at my website, a virtual one-stop shop where you can pick up all the bits and pieces you might be interested in from all the various activities I’m involved in. I’m a bassist, composer, gig promoter, teacher, journalist and writer. Previous to this, I’ve been a builder, tractor driver, worker on an injection moulding production line and worked in supply and distribution and waste disposal, but I don’t think an occupation really defines a man. This site lists all my current activities and some of the bands, projects and institutions that I’m fortunate enough to be involved in. I’ve been a professional bassist since 1996 - first on bass guitar, then on upright as well. Since 1999 I’ve been playing with TURIN BRAKES live and in the studio. I also run my own Jazz project, for which I compose and play bass; THE EDDIE MYER 5TET. I play bass guitar in Afro-Cuban outfit SON GUARACHANDO  and I’m also involved in as many SIDE PROJECTS as is humanly possible. With my colleague, Jack Kendon, I run a promotion called NEW GENERATION JAZZ every month. When I’m not playing bass, I’m teaching it at BIMM BRIGHTON  When I’m not playing music, promoting it, or teaching it, I’m usually WRITING about it for Jazzwise, Jazz Views, Sussex Jazz Magazine and elsewhere. On Monday evenings I play at the BEE’S MOUTH on Western Road and write a blog to entice people to come along.

QOW TRIO - OUT NOW

Riley Stone Lonergan (sax)
Eddie Myer (bass)
Spike Wells (drums)

“If you like pure, unadulterated jazz, then you’ll love QOW TRIO. Seamlessly spanning six decades between them, these three extremely talented musicians were made to play together, delivering the real deal in a spectrum of traditional meets contemporary jazz. The sax/bass/drums format has become somewhat of a lost art form, which made this project that much more special. We’re thrilled to be sharing this exceptional music the world over.”
Martin Hummel (Ubuntu Music)

QOW TRIO is a generation-spanning trio of diverse players who’ve come together, united by a love of the tradition, to explore the freedom that opens up within the three-way saxophone-bass-drums format. Their influences reach back across the history of the music, and look forward into its future, drawing inspiration from its constant evolution, from Lester Young to Charlie Parker to Sonny Rollins to Joe Henderson to Dewey Redman to Seamus Blake to Bill McHenry and beyond, creating a wide-open trio sound that tells a host of exciting stories. The  QOW TRIO debut album, recorded live across a single charged afternoon,  captures the spontaneous interplay that’s always been at the heart of jazz: in it you’ll hear echoes of prohibition era Kansas City swing, the kinetic rush of 52nd Street bebop, the untrammelled freedom of the Manhattan loft scene, and more. Together QOW TRIO’s playing experience encompasses a span of sixty years across three generations.
